Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, the second vice-chairman of the National League for Democracy (NLD) and the chief minister of Mandalay Division, has been charged under Section 505 (b) of the Criminal Code by the Military Council and is being held in Mandalay Prison.
Dr. Zaw Myint Maung was arraigned for the first time in Mandalay’s Aung Myay Thar San Township Court today via online video.
The Central Executive Committee of the National League for Democracy (NLD) has issued five statements. Hla Myo Win, a spokesman for the Aung Myay Thar San Township court, said the lawsuit was filed because the statements were intended to violate public order.
The plaintiff is Daw Nwe Ni Khine, Assistant Director of the General Administration Department. Dr. Zaw Myint Maung was remanded in custody at today’s hearing and will be re-appointed on 22 February.
Mayor Dr Ye Lwin was not among those charged, and only one prime minister has so far been indicted in Aung Myay Thar San Township Court.
Daw Zaw Myint Maung, a lawyer with the National League for Democracy (NLD) ‘s legal aid team, will represent Dr. Zaw Myint Maung in the case. Dr. Zaw Myint Maung was arrested for the second time since July 7.
